I am a wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. I have always loved everything about pregnancy and birth, and especially babies! When my husband, Chris, read an article about doulas, he insisted I look into it further. According to him, “it had my name all over it.” I took the DONA training course as soon as it was offered, and practiced as a doula for several years. I loved my moms and babies, but not the hospital experience, and that was where my clients were delivering. The last doula client I worked with was sent home from the hospital, told she was not in labor, and then delivered the baby on the bathroom floor thirty minutes after we got back to her apartment. That gave me a whole new perspective on childbirth and an urgent desire to be educated! Two years later my youngest son and his precious wife decided to have a home birth with their first baby. After watching them and meeting their midwife, I was inspired to go forward!

I attended the Association of Texas Midwives training program, trained under several wonderful midwives, and spent a month at a busy birth center in El Paso. I worked as hard and as fast as I could to get my CPM (Certified Professional Midwife from the National Association of Registered Midwives) and my Texas License to practice midwifery. I felt like I finally knew what I was called to be when I grew up. I think I was probably the first great grandmother to graduate from the program!

Fast forward to today, I am blessed to own a beautiful birth center in Argyle, Texas. We have a wonderful staff of dedicated midwives and a training program for students who want to preserve and practice the beautiful profession of midwifery. I love having dedicated students that know they have been “called” and come here for training. Our program is constantly evolving, providing student midwives with the education and experience needed for them to develop safe and professional skills for serving the mothers and babies we care for.

I am thrilled to confess that the Lord has allowed my passion to become my profession. My heart for our clients is not only to help them to have a perfect pregnancy, a lovely labor, and a beautiful birth, but to help enrich their lives in every arena of good health! We hold regular classes to teach families how to live a more natural and healthy lifestyle. The results has been, not just the birth of healthy babies, but families who have become friends forever. I am so grateful for each of them!

Kathaleen May LM, CPM

My name is Kathaleen May. My husband, Paul, and I are the proud parents of 9 children (5 girls, 4 boys, ages 36-17) and grandparents of 9 grandchildren. I have had many experiences with my own births, from emergency C-sections to a wonderful homebirth.

19 years ago I knew that I had a calling from the Lord in midwifery, but waited until I was finished having babies and they were older to start my training. During this waiting period, I became a doula to keep active in the birth community. After seeing many hospital births (where medical personnel usually have NO idea what to do at a natural, drug-free birth!) I knew my heart was with midwifery and home/birth center birth, where women are empowered and responsible and allow their bodies to do what they were made to do in birth. We are truly “wonderfully and fearfully made” as the Psalmist tells us!

I completed the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program in 2012 which included rigorous academics, hands-on workshops and an apprenticeship and am now an instructor for this program. I am excited to provide midwifery care to the awesome, strong women of our community at the beautiful, peaceful All About Babies Birth Center in Argyle, TX. The staff, students and midwives here are amazing people and so wonderful to partner with in helping our sweet birth center client families grow!

Jasmin Schumacher LM, CPM, MBA

I live in Haltom City, Texas with my husband Paul and our four children Shai (22), Sydney (20), Storie (18), Terran (16), our granddaughter Caroline (2) and grandson Carson (born 2-14-18). I have a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of North Texas and a Montessori Certification. I have a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool. I have been a doula and a childbirth educator since 1998. I received my midwifery education through the Association of Texas Midwifes Midwifery Training Program and have been a CPM and licensed in the State of Texas from 2004 to 2008 and re-licensed in 2017. From 2008 to 2017 I took a break from midwifery to homeschool my children. I have taught many classes and have attended over 200 births at ten different hospitals, three birth centers, and many homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metro area. My philosophy is to provide families with evidence-based information so that they can make informed decisions that are appropriate for their care during pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond. I believe that women need support during labor so that they are confident in themselves. I also believe that God created women’s bodies to give birth. He is smart and will only grow babies big enough to come out.

I have had a myriad of personal birthing experiences, all of which help me to “meet women where they are” in their birthing decisions. My first birth experience was attending my brother’s birth in 1976. He was born at my mother’s midwives’ home. Then in 1978 my father and I were the only attendants when my sister was born. The midwives were 30 minutes late, my mother was in the shower and my father was dressing my sister. With my first child, I had an OB, went to the hospital, and had the standard hospital birth. Shai’s birth left me with a beautiful, perfect daughter and a lingering desire for something more from the birthing process. The Lord is faithful to give us the desires of our hearts, and with Sydney’s birth I was blessed to receive just that, my heart’s desire…a beautiful natural labor and birth, and another beautiful perfect daughter. Pat Brewer, CNM, Jean Sala Smith, CNM, and Betty Fairman-Hoffman, CNM were my midwives for Sydney’s birth, and that birth started me on the path of serving women and their families. With my third and fourth children, Storie and Terran, I decided to have home births, with Allison Ratliff and Jane Gandy, which were the highlights of my birthing experiences. All of my birth experiences help me to support women in a variety of circumstances.

I am blessed to be working with a great team of midwives and students at All About Babies Birth Center in Argyle, TX. We have so many great plans for expansion, including lots of new and exciting classes for teaching new mothers and student midwives.

I have been a nurse for 37 years before making the transition to All About Babies Birth Center. I worked for 25 years in Neonatal Intensive Care and 7 years in a unit where I did Labor and Delivery, Antepartum, Mother/Baby, Nursery, and GYN surgery.  I have a national certification in NICU since 2005 and worked in a hospital that has a “Texas Ten Step” designation. I have been a Neonatal Resuscitation Instructor since 2011, teaching doctors, midwives, nurses and respiratory therapists National Guidelines for how to resuscitate newborns at birth.

Over the last 3 years, I have become passionate with educating myself about health and nutrition. This knowledge has opened my eyes and has caused me to question certain medical practices.

In the Fall of 2016, my husband and I decided to relocate to North Texas area from Texas Hill Country to be near our daughter and son-in-law, as they are about to welcome their first baby in March of 2017. We sold our house before I was able to find a job and I knew then that it was a sign from God that He was trying to direct me down a different path. After brainstorming, I decided to look into a birth center, where I felt it would be a perfect fit for my past skills and current passions. Donnellyn welcomed me with open arms and I couldn’t be happier to be doing what I love at this beautiful facility, while using my experience and expertise to benefit our clients.

After serving for 31 years as a firefighter on the Fort Worth Fire Department, I retired for a few months.  I worked at a couple of other jobs for awhile, which I loved, but then a certain midwife ask me to assist her with paperwork.  This was over 8 years ago, and it has been 24/7 ever since. Soon after I started, I discovered that to a midwife, the term ‘paperwork’ actually meant everything but delivering babies.

As many people know, this midwife is actually my wife.  I always knew that she was “called” to be a midwife but it was much later that I realized the vision and assignment she was given was actually given to both of us.  The old saying, the two shall become one, also meant that she was not going to be pulled in one direction and me in the opposite.  We are one.  She is the midwife and I am the business administrator at All About Babies Birth Center.  We love walking out this vision together with so many gifted people.

I found All About Babies when I learned I was pregnant with my last baby. I was looking for a more positive experience. As soon as I spoke to Donnellyn and Kathaleen, I knew I would have my baby here. I must add that I completely fell in love with the footprint wall when I toured the facility. I went on to have a beautiful birth with the very best birth team.

A couple years after having my son at the birth center, Donnellyn was looking for someone to fulfill her front desk position and I immediately responded, not only was it an answered prayer, but also a dream come true!! I am so excited to get to work alongside these strong, incredible midwives; and to serve all the wonderful pregnant mommas and their families. I am even more excited as I take on new responsibilities at All About Babies! Growing with All About Babies is a huge blessing for myself AND my family and I excited about the plans God has for my future with All About Babies as well as the plans He has for our team to be able touch the lives of many more families in the future!
