I am a wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. I have always loved everything about pregnancy and birth, and especially babies...with an extraordinary passion!

I contemplated becoming a midwife most of my adult life, but for many years was under the impression that one had to have a nursing degree to pursue midwifery. Nevertheless, I have longed to work with young women in some sort of ministry. I spent much time studying and teaching Bible studies, thinking that would be the arena to fulfill that desire.

One day, after my children were grown and out of the house, my husband Chris read an article about doulas (birth coaches), and encouraged me to check it out. He said that it had my name all over it! I soon became a doula, and practiced as a hospital labor and birth coach for four years. The last girl I supported as a doula was also the mother of the first baby I caught. The hospital sent her home saying she was not in labor, and the baby was born on the bathroom floor thirty minutes after we got back to her apartment! That experience both terrified and fascinated me...I knew I had found what I wanted to do, but I needed (and wanted) much more training. My youngest son and his precious wife decided to have a home birth with their first baby. After watching them and meeting their midwife, I was sold!

That was when I began pursuing my own path to midwifery. I started by enrolling in the Association of Texas Midwives (ATM) training program. Overall, this was a two year program which included academic studies and time as an apprentice. After the completion of the ATM program, I passed the North American Registry of Midwives licensure exam, qualifying me as a Certified Professional Midwife and also as a Licensed Midwife in Texas.

Fast forward to today...I am blessed to now own a beautiful little birth center in Argyle, Texas, with several other professionals. I am thrilled to confess that the Lord has allowed my passion to become my profession. My heart for our clients is not only to help them to have a perfect pregnancy, a lovely labor, and a beautiful birth, but to help enrich their lives in other areas, as well! We offer educational classes on organic food, natural products, homeopathic remedies, exercise, natural birth, and so much more! I pray those we serve will have a healthier, happier family because of the time they spend with All About Babies.

Bless you!!

Congratulations on this exciting time in your life!  We are excited about helping you walk out this journey, and can’t wait to get to know you and your family better.  Allow me to introduce myself…  I grew up overseas, a child of missionary parents who moved a lot. Consequently, I speak French and Spanish fluently and I love to travel and learn about other cultures. I moved back to Texas in the middle of high school, and was planning on going to nursing school. However, I praise God that He is in control of my life and had other plans for my future.

After getting acceptance letters into several nursing schools, I started dating my now husband, who was studying to be a chiropractor. His discussions about chiropractic intrigued me because what I thought of “chiropractic” was not the “chiropractic” I saw Jim Bob live out. And, as I researched it and prayed about it, I decided I needed to change my path and go to Parker College of Chiropractic.

As graduate school often does, Parker College changed a lot of paradigms for me. Pregnancy and pediatrics have always been a huge passion of mine, and I knew this was the population I wanted to work with. While at Parker, I started my post graduate studies to specialize in pregnancy/pediatrics. And, I was also the President of the Pediatric Club for a couple of years. In my last year of school, I was certified as a labor doula and childbirth educator and attended my first (of many) births.

Jim Bob and I were married at the end of my first year of chiropractic school. And, when I was halfway through school and he had graduated, we opened up our family chiropractic office- Lifetime Family Wellness Center. After two years in practice, I began midwifery training, and we helped to open the only birthing center in our county, and partnered with them until mid 2009. I finished training through the Association of Texas Midwives in late 2008.  Then, our lives drastically changed- for the better- in October of 2008 when we had our first born son, Harper, at home.  In early 2010, I tested for and received my midwifery license, and joined with Donnellyn and Christy to open the All About Babies birth center. And, we celebrated Christmas of 2010 by welcoming our first daughter, Ellington Grace, our second home waterbirth.

Harper and Ellington are what occupies the majority of my time these days, and I love it! But, I am blessed to be able to still help catch babies and encourage moms as they birth at home and at the birthing center or hospitals. My home waterbirths profoundly affected who I am today- as a Christian, wife, mother, doctor, midwife and woman. Pregnancy and normal birth is my passion; and, I feel so blessed and honored that moms and dads allow me to serve them during such an intimate time in their lives.

As a family, we are passionate about our personal relationship with Christ and strive to live in a way that honors Him. We attend Gateway Church in Southlake, and Jim Bob and I help lead a small group for married couples and I lead a Bible study for moms of young children. We are passionate about raising many godly children and building a close-knit community. We have fun pursuing a healthier lifestyle on a daily basis, and enjoy leading others into this natural lifestyle.  Follow me on my blog at http://www.drcindyblog.com.

Joni Yankus LM

I attended high school in Aledo and after graduation I made it my career goal to deliver babies. The only way I knew that could be done was to be a doctor, so I became a pre-med student. I absolutely loved science but slowly realized that I didn't want to be a doctor after all. I transferred that same year to Oral Roberts University and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

After graduating from college, I lived in Korea for 1 1/2 years, teaching English. That journey birthed in me a love for travel, recognizing it as an opportunity to see God through the diversity of various cultures and people groups across the world.

When I returned to the states, I began working for a company called WallBuilders which trains people about the Christian heritage of our nation and ways to get back to our humble beginnings. As I was busy with website maintenance, donor development, graphic design, and other responsibilities, the idea of midwifery was introduced to me by a co-worker. Finally, it all made sense. I could deliver babies without having to go to med school!

I enrolled in the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program and graduated shortly thereafter. I have been obtaining live birth experience for 3 1/2 years and have been a licensed midwife for over a year. I was married in July of this year and after relocating from Edenway Birth Center in Cleburne, I am happy to be a part of the team at All About Babies! I am fascinated by the intricate handiwork of God in the lives of people who are welcoming their babies into the world and I look forward to many more opportunities to serve and educate families in my care.

Sherry Oldfield, CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife)

“Mid-Wife” literally translates as “With Woman” in old English and I try to honor that sentiment in everything I do. With all my being, I believe in a woman’s ability to deliver her baby and breastfeed her baby as she chooses. I love watching a strong woman make choices that are right for her and her family. I feel strongly that women need to be given all their options and then supported in their choice. I was a single, working mom while raising both of my children and going to school. I lived many of the challenges most women face.

I started my career as a Licensed Practical Nurse with my two year old daughter in 1983. I started a Registered Nurse program in 1984 and continued to earn a Master’s of Science (MSN) of Nursing in 1990 at corpus Christi State University. In 1992, I finished a Midwifery Certificate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. I recently worked in a Baby Friendly Hospital in the mid-cities area of DFW, gaining practical experience in helping breastfeeding mothers. I have sat for the Lactation Certification Exam (IBCLC). I am committed to helping any mom who wishes to breastfeed. My son was born in 1987 and I breastfed with very little support, and “No” Lactation Consultant. It was difficult and I don’t want any woman to feel that isolated.

My career path has taken me to ALL birth settings, hospital, birth center, and home. I have a special place in my heart for homebirth. My daughter has delivered all three of her babies at home and I am deeply honored to have “caught” all three of them.

I believe in birth, wherever it occurs, and if we approach it as a team it can be “your birth, your baby, your way.” I worked at Parkland in Dallas from 1996 to 2008 and have attended thousands of births. I prefer a setting where a woman and her family know me long before their birth.

I think it is essential, whether for birth or birth control, that we know each other so we can find the best options of care for you and your life.
